All too often cloud migration strategies are born out of the ambitious dream to decrease cost, improve security and/or productivity. Unfortunately, the reality of a cloud migration is often ill-planned and ill-equipped which leads to cost overruns, “Lift and Shift”, and inadequate security. Implementation of security in the cloud is VERY different from traditional data center security. Some factors to consider when migrating are stateless vs stateful applications, load balancing, disaster recovery, access control/keys, privilege management, as well as network security and monitoring. In this talk I will be going through the mistakes so many companies make and steps to follow to ensure an awesome and smooth migration to the Public Cloud.
